The combination of a place surrounded by the Pacific, the charm of Victorian architecture and a cosmopolitan city that the city of San Francisco a popular tourist destination. Located in northern California, where the mild Mediterranean climate attracts hundreds of visitors throughout the year, the San Francisco Bay is famous for the Golden Gate Bridge, Chinatown and Fisherman's Wharf. The summers can be cool and misty and mild winters with occasional rainfall, but most days are sunny and perfect for exploring the various regions that comprise the City by the Bay.

Public transport from the airport includes a modern rail system, BART, leaving passengers in the regions of the city average. From the financial district and Union Square, Fisherman's Wharf, Chinatown, Nob Hill and other districts can be reached on foot or by bus or tram. San Francisco is a city for walking if moderate hill climbing is not a problem and stunning views of the hills offer the reward.

Much of San Francisco was developed during the 1849 gold rush where wealthy miners took their winnings to the city. The quaint Victorian row houses are stacked time on the streets and bay windows have a local signature style. Cable cars travel through these neighborhoods pilots taking steep Union Square to Fisherman's Wharf and Chinatown. The curved street in the U.S., Lombard Street, you can see from the top of a tram stop.

Hundreds of Chinese came to work on the railways during the decade of 1800. Today, Chinatown stands as one of the largest populations of Asia in the U.S. and extends for several blocks of the densely populated city. The fragrant aroma of Chinese food, dozens of import stores, herbs and food markets make this region unique joy of a tourist.

On flat ground, Fisherman's Wharf runs along the waterfront for several miles. Numerous restaurants offer fresh oysters and seafood take-out or a chance to sit down to a dinner party. A factory of great sourdough bread creates 49'rs favorite food. Souvenirs Embarcadero line and also in a mini-outdoor mall called Pier 39. Visitors will see lots of black seals lying on the docks and hear the gulls overhead. From the port, excursions take tourists on cruise on the bay. Alcatraz Island, once a prison ban, makes an interesting half day trip.

No visit to San Francisco would be complete without a look at the famous Golden Gate Bridge, which stretches from the city to Marin County. The expansion of Golden Gate Park (bigger than Central Park in New York) contains trails, botanical gardens, greenhouses for flowers and museums.

The city is known for its fine cuisine, and each district has a unique ethnic perspective. In North Beach Italian restaurants line the street Columbus and offer everything from pizza, veal parmesan and tiramisu. Along with sourdough bread, Ghirardelli chocolate is a favorite of the Structural Funds and the historic factory and shops are in Ghirardelli Square, near Fisherman's Wharf. On the north side of the city, French-style restaurants and California are in the neighborhood of Pacific Heights.
